Repainting the Home Exterior: When’s the Right Time?

The US housing market is experiencing an unforeseen boom. As of 2021, nearly 60% of the homes listed for sale sold for more than the asking price.

Many real estate professionals believe that there’s a correlation between a freshly painted house exterior and an above-asking selling price. From this perspective, repainting your home exterior sounds like a good idea.

Is it high time you get to it? Read the signs suggesting your home needs a fresh coat of paint and where to find superb exterior home painting services in Seattle.

The When and How

Ideally, one should repaint the house exterior every five to 10 years. But this is not always the case as there are many things that can impact the paint's lifespan.

1.Fading Color

Color fades for various reasons — weather conditions, too much sunlight, and of course, time itself. Keep in mind that color probably won’t fade evenly everywhere; some patches may fade faster than others, causing an unpleasant discoloration. Once you notice the outer color fading, consider a new coat of paint.

2. Wear & Tear

Tearing, crackling, peeling, and bubbling are all signs of wear and tear. This common occurrence happens to every exterior and can be solved easily. The important thing is, if you do notice any of these signs, it's best to plan a repaint as soon as possible.

3.Cracked Caulk

The caulk that seals the gaps in your house, especially around your doors and windows, can crack over time. Due to the cracking, the caulk can fall off, and you may see gaps on the exterior. So, when you see the first signs of cracking, call the repaint team and start fixing the problem before things worsen.

4.Gaps

Over time, wooden boards can shrink, often due to dry rot. When this happens, the wood pulls away at the door and window areas, leading to more visible gaps. This signifies that the house should be caulked and protected with a new coat of paint so the gaps are closed and filled accordingly.

5.Selling the House

Painting the house before you sell it might seem counterintuitive, but a layer of new paint can take you a long way. It will make the house look newer, better-kept, and more valuable.

6.It Has Been Years Since the Last Repaint

If you've gone more than 10 years without repainting the exterior of your house, it's time to consider a repaint. Most materials will require new paint at least once a decade.
